I have Windows-XP installed on my Sony- Vio Laptop. Four- five months ago a problem started. When I moved the laptop screen , at times it would just go BLANK and on the blank screen a message would appear : "hardware malfunction... Contact your hardware supplier". And the screen would thereafter freeze with this comment. The only solution now was to shut the screen, open it again, and reboot the laptop. Thereafter I would make sure that the screen is not moved. and I would be able to work without a problem for the next 4-5 hours at a stretch. Once in 3-4 days, however , the problem would recurr with the screen going blank and the message re-appearing: "hardware malfunction... Contact your hardware supplier".

A very common problem for laptops is a dim screen. Seeing your screen go from bright to black is a scary thing, and the first thought that often comes to mind is that you will have to buy a completely new computer. This problem with laptop screens does not have to be so scary or expensive to fix, and is in fact very easy to diagnose.
